Fall Creations

One of the reasons I have been so behind in posting things is that the cold weather is coming upon us and I have many projects to get ready for it! So here is a bit about what I have been doing, aside from schooling, housecleaning, ministry, and such! I do not know how to knit, but Jonathan wanted some wool socks. I discovered loom knitting and sock making is a breeze. So hopefully Jonathan will have some nice warm knitted wool socks soon!

I found some fabric on sale and so it was cheaper to make pants for Kyle. Here is my first pair. Much thanks to Bonnie, a dear friend, who drew me a pattern for him, and provided some much needed encouragement! (I do so miss my grandmother!! It was nice to have her next door and I would just run over to her house with all my questions, mistakes and frustrations. Now Bonnie gets it! Thank you Bonnie! :))

Andrew is allergic to polyester. If it gets in his face he can't breathe. All last winter neither he or I got much sleep because his comforter was filled with polyester, so he would wake up not being able to breathe. So in order to get a good night sleep this winter, I decided to make him a quilt. I figured that I had enough material lying around to do something with. Well it has become quite the saga. I had material that managed to go together OK, and then I had to figure out how many blocks I could get from what I had and if I could incorporate some design, so it would look somewhat alright. Once that was decided the sewing of the blocks went well and fairly quick. Then came time to quilt. A friend had a great idea to quilt geckos on it, (the printed material has geckos). Well I have never done that kind of quilting (I think it is called free motion, using the darning foot on the sewing machine) and even after practice it just didn't look very good. I really didn't have the time to practice and I didn't want it to look horrible, so I thought that maybe I would do it by hand, but then again time is of the essence, since it is getting cooler. I tried just quilting it "normally", but the quilt was just to heavy to work with. So my friend Sara said that I should tie it. I didn't want to do that, but what choice did I have? Then after reading about tying a quilt on line I discovered that tying is about the only way to do a quilt that is this heavy. So I am starting that process... we'll see how it goes....
Oh FYI, I have never made a quilt before (but I am sure you couldn't have guessed that :) ), except for rag quilts and they are easy!!!

Kyle's jammies. The only reason they fit is due to Bonnie, my friend that I mentioned above. After I sewed it the neckline was HUGE!!! It would fall off his shoulder. It was rather discouraging, but then she had me come over to house. She graciously fixed it and encouraged me a ton (I was ready to give up sewing) and gave me a pants pattern for Kyle and Andrew.

Andrew's jammies... Bonnie's shirt pattern and pants pattern! Look how well they fit! :)

Andrew is happy in his new jammies!
